If I was a German, I would be furious. As an outsider, I can only lament for them. The usual Germanic zealotry for their chosen ideology (this time its a bizarre combination of environmentalism and liberalism in a free-market wrapper, but with statist control over everything), is yet again driving the country off the edge of the cliff, and no one is pumping the breaks.
To quote a movie, "Why can't you just be normal???"
So incredibly crazy, this would have been an awesome April Fool’s joke. I’m betting on civil unrest and regime change within a year. Europe is over run with immigrants and green energy stupidity. There are still enough natives to save it, but a serious crisis will be needed for it to happen. Then look out below……. The same stupidity was taking place here in America but we have a different approach on energy, DEI, common sense etc. At least for the next couple years 🤞
Thank you for sharing this interesting and informative article.
I agree with everything you say, and would add that, as Germany’s economic situation deteriorates, social tensions which are presently barely being addressed, and contained only with difficulty, are likely to become ever more acute and visible.
President Trump’s tariff increases will have severe impacts on the vulnerable economies of the Global South and will inevitably lead to poverty-driven increases in refugee flows, and his closing of the United States’ borders to refugees and asylum seekers will further increase the pressures on Europe.
All this not to mention the disastrous consequences of a potential breakdown in social order following a renewed conflict in the Middle East or North Africa.
Interesting Points, I agree with your view that Germany is in a pickle...
I'm missing viable alternatives from the author though. It is always easy to dismiss a point without providing a better idea.
An acute problem with nuclear for example: setting up new nuclear power structures takes decades and is insanely expensive, just look at the new plant in UK which is going to generate the most expensive kilowatts ever created.
Without moving back into CO2 heavy coal, Germany will always have to import Energy if it cannot manage to provide it via alternative ways, e.g. Wind/Solar/Hydrogen.
What a Train Wreck!!!
Oh Dear.
Profligate & Stupid…..a Toxic Concoction…

Great article, a true Double Down Debacle.
🤦
And sad for the average German😔

Things are looking grim indeed…..
Thank you! Great point. The tariff’s impact on the Global South and, as a consequence, on Europe definitely warrant a closer look.
Great article, but as someone who recently moved to Europe its also the worst article. The last thing I wanted to hear is that the Euro is gonna tank.
Pointing out what’s going wrong still leaves room to course correct. It may not sound like it, but I try to stay optimistic.

What would be your best advice there?
