Regardless of where you stand on the many matters at hand, it’s an objective fact that the average IQ in Germany‘s leadership has dropped precipitously - too many competent people ran away or simply have given up. The country is approaching the point of no return in terms of its leadership. A good share of senior national leaders don’t even master basic English, which in 2025 is simply not acceptable. It‘s tragic, because most intuitive Ricardians who ran away from the idiocracy at home didn‘t make it much further than elsewhere in Europe which is for the most part underwritten by German prosperity. Need any proof: France unlike Germany has a functioning energy system and a whole host of strong points, yet it has been unable to act like an adult fiscally for ever, and there is no sign whatsoever of anything changing. You end German prosperity, the current European project falls in no time as no other major country cares in the least - it‘s all talk no action, give me all the money but I keep the box with the red button, my seat at the Security Council the list goes on. Germany was honestly willing to give up power for the greater European good what it got is it now holds intra-European account balances that can never and will never be paid, Brexit completely undoing the balance of power in the EU and now the guy with the least fiscal discipline of all playing big boss. Yes Germany was endlessly naive, and now it’s too late things are deeply entrenched. Spend two months in France and you will realize why Europe is consigned to economic paralysis under French leadership which is all but dialed in at this point.
Where else will Germany get the cheap efficient reliable energy needed to rebuild its domestic military defense? my understanding is post Fukushima they shut down all of their nuclear reactors to shift to renewables which has been a disaster. I think German government not wanting to be reliant on Russia and the inevitable energy reality needed for said rebuilding of their defense capabilities are incompatible.
Gas will flow to Germany again, its inevitable. The only question is if Germany will be able to steer the process, or will blindly surrender itsefl to the process as you described.
If by arbitrage you mean gamble, as opposed to the convention meaning of exploiting price differentials in two markets for the same asset, then the prospect of reopening Nord Stream certainly fits the bill. It will, however, take a major political change. The Germans recognise the evil that is present day Russia — look at how much they’re putting into their defence budget; there is no way Germany will allow itself once again to be so dependent on Russian gas until either Putin goes or the AfD form a government.
You have great insight. I believe you are 100% on the mark here. The real puzzler is how Germany can be so clueless.
Thank you! And yes, that’s a big mystery…
I'd try to buy it if I had the money!
Let's crowdfund!

Smart move Germany to reduce nuclear energy
It‘s so intelligent you can‘t understand it, no one will ever get it is how smart it was.

Some might say shutting down their nuclear reactors was a true s*** show.

💯
There will only be one successful bidder. That is whoever in Russia can supply gas. Without a guarantee of supply no same businesses would buy it.
